OK !!! UBER is coming to the Waterloo Region. Thanks to all people that want UBER !
I'm here to say. Good Luck !!
Facts of taxi industry in the Waterloo Region.
1. Every cab out there is own by a owner/operator not by the company. The company is owned by all the owner/operators.
2. Heavily regulate industry. (fares, safety, insurance, and advertisements)
3. Fares - regulate by the region. Taxi companies have some input into the rate, but the usually the region has the last word.
4. Safety - MTO (Ministry of Transportation of Ontario) safety inspection done yearly, police check done yearly, 3 random inspection by the region a year. Random inspection done by the Waterloo taxi inspection team.
5. Insurance - Commercial insurance (able to drive people around for a fee). Mandate 5 million dollar liability insurance.
6. Advertisement - One way to generate income to offset cost. But, its heavily regulate by region.
7. 24/7, 365. That's right we're 24 hours and 7 days a weeks. Even in the worst condition, where bus service is pulled off the roads. You can still call for a taxi. ( it won't be there in the usual 5 minutes, but you will get one)
8. WE DO NOT DISCRIMINATE! We drive everyone!
People who want to use UBER. It's your choice. Just remember that your stepping in a vehicle that will not be properly insured. Taking away jobs from the local economy. Taking money a from region (fees, taxes, and wages). Your just hurting your neighbour. People that invest their money in the industry. A office with a call center. Real staff! People that are employed from the region.
UBER - said that uber drivers will make more money then some taxi drivers. Part-time drivers in the region usually make 40% of the fare (no hourly wages). They don't pay for gas or insurance or any other fee. Where UBER drivers lose 25% of the fare. Pay for gas, maintenance and hopefully the proper insurance. I don't see it. But I do see how UBER is Billion dollar company. Just steamrolling over everyone. Ignoring people safety. The law and regulations. I don't understand how people say it a great service. When they are a OUTLAW service! Answering to no one.
In the newspaper today (The Record) someone call my industry in the region corrupt. How in the hell are we corrupt? Please explain this?
That's all for now! But, I will be posting more.
